As much as we’re obsessed with Twilight, we’re totally excited to see Kristen Stewart step outside of her Bella Swan persona and channel her inner Snow White tomorrow in Snow White and the Huntsman. The movie will have tons of action-packed fight scenes and a lot of Chris Hemsworth screentime (yum), as well as a totally killer soundtrack featuring Florence + the Machine. In honor of SWATH, for this week’s Playlist of the Week, we chose our top ten fave songs by the most kick-ass females on the planet.
1. Florence + the Machine, “Breath of Life”
The music video features scenes from Snow White and the Huntsman as well as killer drum-based background music. When we listen to this song, we can’t help but feel like we’re ready for battle on top of the world.
2. Kelly Clarkson, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”
Since winning the first season of American Idol, it seems like Kelly Clarkson sings all of the ultimate girl-power songs (anyone remember “Since U Been Gone?”). Her latest hit is a total blast to jam out to in your car with your friends or to sing in your head to your loser ex.
3. Beyonce, “Run the World (Girls)”
Duh, a song dedicated to girls running the world had to make our list. Who run the world? Beyonce.
4. P!nk, “So What”
When we think of kick-ass females, P!nk is the first person to come to mind. Through tons of platinum albums and sold-out tours, she never lost her rocker-edge and we totally love that.
5. Ke$ha, “We R Who We R”
Since Ke$ha hit the music scene with “Tik Tok,” she’s always been a little bit, well, different. In this song she encourages everyone to embrace the person that they are, which is a message we can def agree with.
6. Christina Aguilera, “Fighter”
With a music video set in a boxing ring, this classic jam is perfect for days where you just want to let your anger out. We’d suggest listening to this song and not actually punching someone, though.
7. Britney Spears, “Stronger”
Yes, Britney went through a rough patch, but she’s back as a judge on the X Factor and better than ever. This song is a classic jam that will forever make us smile. We loved her back in the day and we still love her now.
8. Demi Lovato, “Skyscraper”
Demi has been super open with her struggles over the past year, and with this song she has been able to reach out to tons of people who are also struggling. There’s nothing more uplifting than, well, a skyscraper.
9. Nicki Minaj ft. Rihanna, “Fly”
What do you get when you combine two of the most kick-ass female artists on the planet? A beyond kick-ass song that combines Nicki’s hard-hitting raps with Rihanna’s smooth vocals for the perfect medley of awesomeness.
10. Lady Gaga, “Born This Way”
Even though critics complained that this song ripped off Madonna‘s “Express Yourself,” we can’t help but have it stuck in our heads. We love the video, the message and the fun dance-beat. What can we say, Gaga, we’re obsessed with you.
